Home Care Providers Offer Up Holiday Healthy Eating Tips For Seniors

Dec 15, 2017 by Garrett Hafler

If you are helping to provide home care to your loved one, then their home care providers may have already told you that it is important that your senior stay happy, healthy, and engaged, especially throughout the day time. It can be difficult to keep up with their eating habits, especially during the holidays, as you already have your own things to do from planning a local travel down to shopping and cooking meals. It is important for all seniors, especially those who receive care from home care providers, to stay healthy.

It can be hard for anyone during the holiday season to remain on a diet and this is why a loved one or family member can help you. Here are some tips from home care providers about how to keep your loved one’s diet in check this holiday season:

  • Never leave your loved one around holidays treats, especially if they have dementia
  • Never simply deprive a loved one of sweets, as this will only make them want them more
  • Pay close attention to where your senior is located and where treats or sweets are, especially if left in the open
  • If your loved one gets sent treats, monitor how much they eat and try to limit them to one piece per day
  • If family members are working to help you care for your senior, make sure they are on alert as well
  • If your loved one does have diabetes, do watch to make sure they do not take in too much sugar
